GOOD OLD CZECHS
The Odyssean story of Czechoslovak airmen fighting across war torn Europe. A unique poetic form of archive storytelling with never-before-seen footage following two Czechoslovak airmen, František Fajtl and Filip Jánský, who escaped to fight the Nazis after the Munich Agreement paved the way for the occupation of their homeland. It follows their experiences across the whole of Europe, the euphoria of their return at the end of the war, and their betrayal and persecution once the communists took power in 1948. Using only archive footage it allows the audience to experience both the momentous historical events and daily wartime life through the eyes of the airmen as if they took place here and now.
Awards
The main prize in this year’s Trilobit Barrandien 2023 film and television awards has gone to Good Old Czechs. The Trilobit awards are organsied by the Czech Film and Television Union FITES.
The Film Good Old Czechs receives the audio-visual achievement award from the Association of Czech Film Critics.
The documentary Good Old Czechs has won a special cinematographic award from the Czech Society of Cinematographers.
The Film Good Old Czechs has been nominated by the Czech Film and Television Academy in two categories – Best Documentary and Best Editing.
